DAATH NIX CLEANS UP WITH DUMPTRUCK

July 2009: Daath Nix is set to take out the proverbial 'wack rap' trash this summer. Thundering through headphones from July, Dumptruck is the first release from this breakout emcee, as he prepares to clean up the competition with an uncontaminated production style and crisp lyrical delivery.

The 27-year-old, Queens-born lyricist says the track materialized as soon as he heard the beat. "I couldn't get the image of a dumptruck out of my head,' he explains. 'On every resolution - there was this honk!"

Paying homage to the contagious beats and raw samples of golden era hip hop, Daath Nix is building his sound on a 24-carat musical foundation. This single's scorching hook and bumping 88 tempo is not only testament to Daath's vision and critical ear, but the byproduct of a legacy of music appreciation.

Protégés of legendary soul producer Kenton Nix, Daath and his brother (producer DJ UMC) have cut their teeth performing and recording with some of the finest session musicians to grace the liner notes of seminal '70s jazz, funk and soul.

Together, Daath Nix and UMC have founded the production powerhouse Vynl Destination. Pushing a style they describe as definitively 'now', the Nixes have learned the fundamental lessons of music craft from masters of the trade.

"We feel blessed to have had some old school artists with us in the studio," says Daath. "The experience has definitely elevated our production level." Jazz musicians such as Ray Reid, Jeff Smith and Lennie Underwood have not only supported Daath in the recording studio but also in live performances - cementing the group's live appeal and showcasing its musical versatility.

"We're not your typical beatmakers," Daath explains, "We're pretty eclectic. There's a lot of pop and rock... a little bit of a country element, some alternative stuff... At the end of the day, we see it as a full-time job, making music for people. We want to make it as good as possible."

Dumptruck is the first release from Daath Nix and will clear the way for a full-length album in late 2009, out on Plum Records.

The Main Ingredient

July 2009: Queens-born lyricist Daath Nix knows all about the hard work behind making good music; by age eight the young beat aficionado was already messing around with his father's production equipment. Now, in 2009, he is about to see a life-long passion come to full fruition with the launch of his debut album.

Raised on a diet of premium disco and soul - his father is production heavyweight Kenton Nix - Daath and his brother, DJ UMC, have inherited their father's musicality and rigorous studio discipline.

Upholding the family legacy of top shelf production, Daath Nix and DJ UMC have formed the dynamic team Vynl Destination - an enterprise purely focused on rolling out top-notch, neck-cracking beats.

Daath's eloquence and lyrical ability complements his brother's distinctive, methodical production approach and provides a formidable foundation for the Vynl Destination beat-crunching machine.

"From day one I had an appreciation of music," says Daath. "I was raised by a producer. From the bass lines to drum arrangements - everything had to be funky... That was embedded in us as kids."

Songwriting is innate for the lyricist, whose early childhood memories were set to a soundtrack of rhythm and soul. Over the years Daath absorbed the eclectic and expansive audio treasure from his father's collection, which included Kenton Nix Senior's own tracks - some of the most heavily-sampled sounds in hip hop.

"For one, I grew up listening to a whole catalog that most people have never even heard" says Daath. "People don't get to see the ugly side of the music industry - there's a vast amount of stuff that never even came out that I got to listen to, analyze and diagnose... It's like I have this lost library in my head."

Fresh-off-the-press, Daath Nix's full-length album debut also features some of the industry's most seminal jazz and soul musicians.
